In this exercise you will begin to explore and evaluate a small number of Web 2.0 applications on your own. To start, take a moment to surf around and find a few tools that appeal to you. Here are a few good places to start your search:
- Cog Dog’s Digital Storytelling Tools: http://cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/StoryTools
- Web 2.0: Cool Tools for Schools: http://cooltoolsforschools.wikispaces.com/
- Web 2.0 Directory: http://www.go2web20.net/
- Web 2.0 Directory (e-learning): http://www.go2web20.net/#tag:e-learning
- pachyderm http://www.pachyforge.org/
Sign up for at least three sites and use our class wiki to let the rest of us know which sites you have chosen. This will prevent duplicate presentations. Here’s a link to our wiki: https://mallorca2011.wikispaces.com/
Once you have selected your sites you should prepare a brief presentation using your blog as the delivery mechanism. You should create a post for each software tool and incorporate as much information as possible – screenshots, live demos of the product in action, videos, even a Google Presentation if it makes sense. When preparing your presentation try and focus on the following:
- The big picture – what is the site? who is it intended to be used by?
- Relevance – how can you envision using this tool in a school setting?
- Describe any challenges you encountered while using the site
In addition, you can refer to the lecture from today for some ideas that may interest you – also feel free to refer back to the readings on SOCS for some useful links to Web 2.0 sites.
